Mainichi: Feeding the world's fascination with Japan
...Takeshi Kudo, the editor-in-chief of Japan's premiere English-language art, culture and lifestyle magazine Kateigaho International Edition...believes that over the past two years he and his team have honed in on what it is that fascinates foreigners about Japan...samurai, geisha, ninja and Zen, and the like...It is this kind of obsession with the romanticized image of Japan...that has lead Kudo to reinvent the look of the magazine - specifically the front cover photo. Gone are the likes of celebrity duo "Puffy"...and Chiaki Kuriyama who played the unforgettable schoolgirl assassin Go Go Yubari in Quentin Tarantino's "Kill Bill". In place of these important icons of modern Japanese pop culture will be images of the "real Japan" that the world still wants to believe. This doesn't mean to say that the magazine plans to propagate any untruths - just fan the flames of fantasy.
