At first glance, homosexual life in Japan can seem quite repressed. Public displays of affection are next to nil, gay Japanese men often live secret lives and it's hard to notice a gay presence at all unless by venturing into Tokyo's "gayborhood," Shinjuku Ni-Chome.

I saw two gay men on the train last week in Shin-sugita holding hands and kissing, my god the people that got on just looked at them and got off as quick as possible - the whole carrigae was empty. At least I got a seat. Now Japanese people don't sit next to Gaijin or Gays now.
