Yeah, in America, we have many ancient and well-worn techniques for getting out of homework. Do they not have that tradition in Japan, so kids have to come up with crazy and stupid things like this?

usually excuses aren't used. It's more of "I didn't do my homework" Teacher moves on to the next kid. same routine.

In Junior Highs over here: It doesn't matter if you do or don't do your homework....you'll still get passed into the following grade....you still graduate; then you go to High School..don't do your homework (or any studying) dropout during your first year, join a host club & make money. If you do go to university, do or don't do your homework (or studying of any kind) and a lot of times you still graduate because certain professors have pulled strings.
:shake:
Actually a lot depends on where and what kind of school one goes to (at the junior high & high school level; university is a world unto itself). If you go to a school where they are (supposedly) churning out the "elite" of tomorrow then they'll test the kids on a constant basis and give them sh*tloads of useless homework to do. All for the sake of keeping test scores high just to show off. At the majority of public schools it's the opposite. Oh sure they give the kids loads of assignments & tests but it is all a gigantic smoke screen. These kids are tomorrow's cannonfodder, everybody knows it even the kids (who lack any true motivation to rise above their situation)
Sad really.
