Boy, 7, survives 20th floor death leap

SMH wrote:A seven-year-old boy survived a fall from a 20th floor window when his mother leapt to her death holding him in her arms, police said today.

The woman, 40, wrapped her arms around her son before making the 60-metre leap yesterday in Sakai, about 400 kilometres west of Tokyo.

She died instantly but the boy suffered only broken legs and his life was not in danger, a local police spokesman said.

"We suspect the woman forced her son into a double-suicide but because she jumped off holding her son and they landed in a garden, she by chance gave him a cushion and he miraculously survived," the spokesman said...more

MDN wrote:SAKAI, Osaka -- A young boy miraculously survived a 60-meter leap from a high-rise housing complex with his mother over the weekend in an alleged murder-suicide bid, police said.

At around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, a resident of an apartment complex in Minami-ku, Sakai, who was in the building's parking lot, heard a huge noise, and rushed to the scene to find a woman and a young boy lying on the ground, investigators said.

... Noting that a video game machine was abandoned on the passageway on the 20th floor, local police said they suspect that the woman jumped from the passageway with her son in a murder-suicide bid.

The boy survived because he was held by his mother and plunged into shrubbery on the premises of the complex, investigators said ...more

In my day, mums would just smack you when you refused to stop playing a video game.

Believe.
People are real rubbery.
The guy in the rehab hospital bed next to mine did 5,000 ft(1,524m) "streamering" in an unopened parachute (I only did a mere 7 stories window washing).:cliff:

Yep, I've watched mother and her 7-year old daughter do the deed off the top of Toshima-ku's 11-story welfare housing for single-mothers. It didn't even register in my mind as a "jumper" because it was mother and daughter---I just saw them on the edge for a while and when I looked again they weren't there. Nothing clicked in my mind, until the fire trucks came to wash off the mess before the ambulance arrived.

Thats the sad truth. Every second day there is some horrible story about a mother taking her and her childs life in some unthinkable way.
We should be shocked and upset, but insted it hardly registers as we shake our heads...............

You'd wonder why the Tokyoites are so worried about a Korean invasion - I mean the birth rates are the lowest on the planet and Japanese are already doing a pretty good job of killing themselves
