Japanese "Wall Gardening"

Researchers in Eastern Hyogo believe this experimental wall garden could be the way of the future. The project is the work of local company Cube Farm and Kobe University's Agricultural faculty. They say growing lettuce this way reduces the cultivation period by two-thirds

Funnily enough this has been a process used by illegal operations to promot horticultural growth in tight spaces for years... Nothing new about this, just adapated differently (read: legally)

The ward office in Taito-ku, Tokyo has grown the ward symbol on the side of their building. No lettuce.

Not really on topic, but did anybody watch ch8 news this afternoon?
There was something about lettuce grown in the south pole. I missed the main story (another Moutai moment!);)

different people have been using this method for a long time, both legally and illegally, but im not sure how it could cut down the cultivation time by two thirds just from growing in a different formation.
