London's most expensive sandwich went on sale at Selfridges today and at 」85 and 2,000 Calories it promised to lighten pockets and expand waistlines.

The McDonald Sandwich is the brainchild of Selfridges chef Scott McDonald, who said the idea came to him while taking the train home three weeks ago.

He said: "I wanted to say 'If money was no object, what would you put in a sandwich?'.

"It wasn't just a case of using the most expensive produce, the flavours are exceptional, they marry really well.

"You get absolutely amazing taste from every level as opposed to a taste explosion."

The main expense of the sandwich is the Wagyu beef, which is flown in fresh from Japan, and comes from cows that were massaged and fed on beer.

Other ingredients include fresh lobe frois gras and black truffle mayonnaise.

Mr McDonald added: "Tasting it you would probably think 'Bloody hell, that's rich'."

The first person to buy the sandwich was food buff Jan Gedzisz, who was taking it back to the office to share with his boss.

The 61-year-old widower said: "I'm feeling very peckish so it should go down well . . . more

For 85 pounds, I'd be expecting more than the sandwich to "go down well"!

;)

Wagyu raised in Europe
In 1996 the first steps were taken to establish a European herd of Wagyu cattle, complete with their own pedigree and label (Châteaux Wagyu)
The European Wagyu breeding programme was divided over two impressive estates. Both at the farms on the Altembrouck Château estate, in Belgium as on the 12.000 acres historic estate Voelas Hall in Wales, UK you can find the first of these exclusive Japanese cows in Europe.

Châteaux Wagyu uses the best genetic material from an exclusive breeding programme started 20 years ago for the critical Japanese market.
Our initial herd has now grown to some 200 Wagyu animals in early 2003.

Starting from December 2003, our own European Wagyu is being introduced exclusively at the famous Harrods food halls and restaurants

So they dont really need to bother with all that importing and exporting do they?

Im generally quite happy with my Striploin steaks and occassional fillet.

I personally wouldnt pay that much for beef unless; the Cows had been raised in an anti-gravity environment such as the moon and fed a diet of Ben & Jerrys icecream while being read poetry to by members of royal families..

Seems to me that this jerk stole the idea from someone else:

The $100 Philly

The beef's straight from Japan as well. Saw it on that program with Mark Summers on Food Network.

Then again, they're all jerks if they're paying that much!! O.o
Why do the Japanese always have to have a favorite saying?
