The Mainichi (English) reports that it was the restaurant owner who died and his parents who were hospitalized.

When I first saw the title I thought BB was eating Daikon again.

Now that I read the article, I was thinking that this is so sad but also isn't carbon monoxide odorless?

And now "death gas" is available at home:

Japanese Company Recalls Water Heaters

Associated Press wrote:
A Japanese gas appliance maker was recalling about 260,000 water heaters after reports of 20 deaths from carbon monoxide poisoning linked to the heaters, news reports said Wednesday.

Paloma Ltd. is recalling the water heaters in seven models that were produced and sold in Japan between 1980 and 1989, Yomiuri, Japan's largest daily, reported . . . more

Sounds a bit like a hasty, "knee-jerk" reaction, don't you think? Maybe they should wait another TWO DECADES ( ) and look at it again then.
