Interesting to see how AMEX Japan is trying to offshore... Not too many cheap-labour Indians who speak good enough Japanese to do phone support.
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

The day that happens, I'm switching my Amex to Diners Club.

The day that Amex can pull it off Diners Club will do likewise.

I don't think we'll see Indian support staff for Japanese customers though -- that's why Amex is shipping young & cheap J-kids down under for telephone support.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to ship them to somewhere bumfucked like Shikoku or the tip of Nagasaki than to send them to Australia, sponsor their visa, housing, etc?

I think the higher costs of everything else in Japan (housing, office rent, manager wages, bennifets, etc) would make it more expensive. Especially considering that they already have a call centre set up in Australia so they would just be adding to that rather than having a separate centre here.

Might be easier to hire people with the "live overseas, experience gaijin life!" tag than with the "move to buttfuck Japan tag" too.
