I hope you don't mind me sharing this story...

I used to teach a retired high court judge at an eikaiwa and he told me that during the war he wrote a letter to a newspaper complaining about how rudely a soldier was behaving towards a woman. For that he was called in to meet the military authorities(I don't know if that was Army, Army police, kempeitai, or what) but didn't go. I think he knew that he could have been in deep trouble.
