Mainichi: Subway-map neckties a hit for Osaka department store
Neckties whose linings contain printed maps of local subways have proved a hit here, selling quickly at an Osaka department store that put them up for sale. The neckties were designed by Tokyo manufacturer Ara Shoji. The firm has designed four varieties of the tie, including ones that feature train maps for Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. The dotted ties come in eight colors, and are priced at 6,090 yen each. When they hit the shelves at a department store in Osaka during the personnel reshuffling season, they proved a huge success. A representative from the manufacturer said the neckties could be useful as a conversation starter. "Even if you're in an unfamiliar place due to personnel reshuffling or business trips, you won't be struggling to find topics for a business chat if you have these ties," the representative said.
