Utada Hikaru Diet Makes You Sick

Postby Mulboyne » Mon May 21, 2007 4:25 pm

[floatr]Image[/floatr]Taipei Times: Doctor debunks Japan's`chili pepper diet' myth
A man weighing 101kg ended up with more than a dozen stomach and duodenal ulcers after going on a "chili pepper diet," his doctor said. He had seen on the Internet that eating large amounts of hot peppers aided weight loss. "He ate large amounts of chili paste mixed with rice three times a day, every day," said Hsiao Tun-jen of Hsiao's Gastroenterology Clinic. "By the third week, his stools had turned black"... After taking appropriate medication and staying away from spicy food, the man has now recovered, Hsiao said. However, he failed to lose any weight on the chili pepper diet... Like many other fads, the chili pepper diet first came to Taiwan from Japan, where pop singer Utada Hikari started the sensation. "Just do a Web search for `chili pepper' and `weight-loss'," Hsiao said. "The Internet, women's magazines and advertisers all help to start and perpetuate many other dubious `miracle food' myths...Exaggerated claims have been made about everything from apples to seaweed jello"...more...

Utada Hikaru's weight also discussed here.

I can't understand fad dieters. Weight loss is a real simple formula...expend more calories than you take in. Why do you think Billy's Boot Camp works? These people actually start exercising! Even making no other lifestyle changes the average slob will lose weight following that program. Or, eat a little less every day. That works. Problem is, folks who gained weight over years and decades wanna lose it in days or weeks. There really is a sucker born every minute. [/rant]

What I can't understand

Postby canman » Mon May 21, 2007 7:35 pm

I got tired of being overweight, or fat if that is the term you like. I turned 40 year and was discussing with my sister, a nurse, that at or around 40 your metabolism starts to slow down making it more difficult to lose weight. Anyway starting in February, I made a concerted effort to eat three meals a day, but to make them a little smaller than I used to eat. No snacks or desserts, and no (sorry GB) alcohol, or a very little amount. And start to exercise. Here it is May 21 and so far I have lost 18lbs, or 8.6 kgs. I feel great, I think I look a hell of a lot better, none of my clothes fit, but that is ok.
What I can't understand is that people don't congratulate me on losing weight, everybody tells me I'm going to rebound, and that I have to be careful, about weight gain.
I understand that for about 75% of people who lose weight, within two years they gain it all back. I'm not saying I won't, although I think this change I have made is more lifestyle and its something that I can continue. Its not a fad. But are some people jealous that I was able to lose weight, is that why they tell me I will gain it back. It's strange.

completely off topic, but i just wanted to say that :p

as for weight gain / loss, i totally agree it's lifestyle choices. fast food, snacks etc.. that stuff is fine sometimes.

i really don't understand these people who make a staple of high fat foods etc, sit on the couch all day and then complain that their arses are twice as big as they were several years ago. ditch the car every once in awhile, walk or bike to where you want to get, enjoy the scenery and save yourself the stress of dealing with all the other idiot assholes on the road.

i wasn't exactly fat when i came over here - 172cm and 78kg, but a switch in diet to mostly fish and rice along with daily walks of at least 35 mins plus plenty of yard work and several months later i was down to 64kg. i've hardly fluctuated at all from that weight in 8 years now. i was scared at one point, the weight was coming off so fast and i didn't think i had 14kg to lose.

just irks me that everybody these days wants a magic pill rather than to actually put in the work.

Sens rule

Postby canman » Mon May 21, 2007 7:52 pm

Now back to the diet topic, I didn't complain about being overweight, since I knew what I was doing was causing it. And yes it is simple, but it took me a long time to figure it out, that its just less food and more exercise that is needed. No magic pill or anything. Now I know for a lot of people its difficult to find the time, but trust me I'm as busy as anybody these days, but I'm making the time to exercise. And truth be told, I don't really miss the alcohol that much. If I really want to eat something sweet, I will, but only a little bit. Last Saturday I went out had dinner, had a couple glasses of wine, a little dessert, but all within moderation. The old Canman would have eaten double, and probably still not been satisfied. Anyway sorry to have highjacked this thread with personal junk.

I lost 25Kilos in two years.
My daughter left a dog with us when she moved apartments.
The damned thing needs to be walked three+ times a day, first walk at daybreak, next mid afternoon and TWICE before bed.
I'm a fucken wreck!! :(

It looks like Japan is going the other way with regards to weight...
Mammoth burgers lead marketers' greasy charge to a porkier Nippon
Mainichi
After resisting the urge to supersize for years, food is finally getting big in Japan, according to Weekly Playboy (5/28).

The MegaMac, a monster burger boasting four beef patties, three buns and an artery-clogging 754 calories per serving, has proved an enormous hit for McDonald's Japan since it was made available on limited release in December last year.

"We imagined men around 20 or so looking for an energy boost would be the main market for the MegaMac," a spokesman from the McDonald's Japan Communications Division gushes to Weekly Playboy. "Frankly speaking, we never dreamed it'd be such a huge hit."

And burgers aren't the only fast food attaining life-threatening proportions. Instant ramen noodles are also sizing up....more...

Interesting suggestion. But I'm just not very adventurous, whenever I cook dog meat I cook it just like any other meat. I usually just substitute it for another meat in the recipe. Do you have any creative recipes? :drool5:

When my daughter moved out, she also left a candidate for a new recipe that operates on about the same strolling schedule as yours! We might have enough here for a BBQ!

If there's not enough pooch, would you be willing to donate a goat?
Doesn't have to be a pretty one, just young and tender.:D

I knew you would get around to that. I'll have you know that I do not hang around with any ugly goats!

Remember that guy Michael Hebrenko who weighed 1000 lbs. and with the help of Richard Simmons lost 800 of it! Within 7 years he gained it all back.

How can someone work that hard and then give it all up again?

I think the issue is lifestyle. People seem to believe that a diet is a temporary thing, and once they reach their target weight they stop doing what got them there. They revert to their bad habits.

I think measurements and body fat percentage are a better indicator of health than weight. People need to stop dieting, and start living healthy lifestyles. Slowly change the habits that are harming them. Then the issue of putting weight back on would be moot.
