Kambara says prices have dropped in recent years, and a room in a first-class hotel in Tokyo can be had for as little as $150 a night. A gyudon, or luncheon bowl of grilled beef on rice, goes for $2.40. A McDonald's hamburger sells for about 50 cents

Right, what foreigners want to come to a foreign country and eat rotten McDonalds. Or gyudon for that matter. Just try going to a half decent sushi shop and see how much it will cost you. And for those $150 hotel rooms, I guess that is for the single room without a view, and of course for only one guest. If two guests try to stay in the same room then of course you must double the cost.
