Yomiuri: METI suspends operations at 3 Venus beauty salons
The Economy, Trade and Industry Ministry on Wednesday suspended three companies in the Venus group of beauty salons from soliciting new customers or drawing up new contracts for a six-month period that started Thursday. The ministry deemed that the companies had violated the Specified Commercial Transactions Law by aggressively coercing potential customers to sign contracts with them. This is the first time the government has ordered companies in the beauty salon business to suspend operations. According to the ministry, salon employees would stop young women on the street and lure them into salons with the promise of a free tour of the facilities.
