One Reason To Live In Nagoya

Last month a new izakaya called Oosu Ni-chome Sakaba opened up in Nagoya. It has a Showa retro feel and serves some fairly bog standard dishes averaging around 500 yen. That's no great incentive but the bar also advertises a nomihodai (all you can drink) service every day at any time. A draft beer is usually 400 yen and a glass of shochu goes for around 500 yen so when the bar advertises all you can drink in two hours for the sum of 980 yen, that seems like an offer that could severely damage your health. "I bet the staff serve slowly," I hear you cry. Well the place has a self service bar so the only delay is likely to be if you can't remember how to put one foot in front of the other towards the end of a session. It's open from 4:00pm to 1:00am and if you want to go over the two hour mark then it is, I kid you not, 500 yen for every extra hour.

When in Japan this December, I might have to go through Nagoya.

Holy shit. I don't think that business plan was designed with the gaijin in mind.

While the publicity is clear that the deal is an opening period loss-leader, I agree with hodensaft that a determined few squads of gaijin could probably blow the business out of the water.

Even that's not enough to get me to go to Nagoya, much less to live there.

I will be heading to Sakaba this weekend, to drink them dry....

And Jack, old chap. You were never invited to come to Nagoya. Just you stay a decent distance away there now.

The above is a far better reason to live in Nagoya than the all-you-can-drink opening special.

I have got such a hangover. I don't even want to think about beer right now! The sushi hasn't soaked it all up either. Blergh

Thanks for posting that Mulboyne. As I already live in Nagoya, I will have to swing by some evening and check it out.

And Jack, you don't know shit (but of course we all already knew that).
