A Jar Of Kit Kat

Postby Mulboyne » Wed Oct 17, 2007 11:53 am

[floatr]Image[/floatr]Asahi: Kit Kat breaks into beverage machines
Nestle Confectionery's Kit Kat has become the first confectionery in Japan to be sold in street vending machines alongside beverages. Kit Kat Jar contains four packages of the long-selling chocolate bars and sells for a tax-inclusive 200 yen. It comes in a glass bottle because vending machine items must be heavy enough to fall down into the slot, the company said.

So how many layers of packaging is that?
Plastic wrap around a glass bottle with a metallic twist top holding 4 bars each in their own plastic and probably with foil wrapers as well. Did I miss anything?
I love Japanese packaging! :fresse:

Well, it might have to be glass if they are only putting 4 kitkat bars into it. This isn't exactly a new thing...They had a canned version with 6 kitkat bars in it five years ago and then they only wanted 160 yen for it....It was very sturdy vacuum sealed steel can with large ring pull top. I even remember where this machine was, the vending machine mecca that is that large car park garage on Dogen-Zaka in Shibuya, whose entrance is lined with over a dozen different vending machines from multiple vending companies.

Last year in Osaka, I saw a vending machine that sold standard kitkat bars in a beverage vender (along with the rather potato crisps, which was I was actually surprised to see in a beverage vender).

I've seen these on and off in local vending machines here for a few years now... I've even bought them a couple of times. :) Cold KitKat on a hot summer day is very tasty indeed!

Actually, when I saw this post the first thing I wondered was how many people would accidently buy these things thinking they were a new drink.

I bought one of these last year at Kozunomori station in Narita last year. I'd missed a train, which guaranteed me a 20-30 min wait for the next one, it was nasty hot out, and I was hungry.

And yes, I had to check closely to make sure it wasn't a drink.
