A drugmaker has identified 222 people likely infected with the hepatitis C virus through a tainted blood product, but 30 of them cannot be contacted, the health ministry said Tuesday.
Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Corp. has informed 50 of the people that they were administered the blood product, fibrinogen, and recommended they consult with doctors, the ministry said.
The company contacted them by Friday through medical institutions that prescribed the company's blood product.
Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma, however, has been unable to reach at least 30 of the 222 people because they are dead [probably of Hepatitis C-related complications] or their addresses or telephone numbers are unknown.
