Asahi: Corruption at municipal level hits 10-year high
Corruption is thriving at the municipal level across Japan, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. It said cases involving employees of municipal governments in fiscal 2006 reached a 10-year high. In a report released Wednesday, the ministry said the 159 cases, including high-profile ones involving the indicted governors of Fukushima, Wakayama and Miyazaki prefectures, were up by 19 from the previous fiscal year.
