The key part of the law indicates that as long as a customer is "being entertained" on his own then it is acceptable for such an establishment to remain open after 1 a.m. A friend in Kabukicho told me that authorities will often simply view this to mean a staff member remaining on the opposite side of the bar from the customer, which is not the case in a hostess club.

For being a prude, but why do Japanese guys always need extra service, like sexier outfits, and mirrored floors to look up their pants. Doesn't it get boring for these poor pathetic guys? I understand once or twice its a kind of thrill, but all the time, come on.

Meh

Postby Minihux » Sat Jan 26, 2008 4:53 pm

I dont see why people would complain, over here in Aus we pay crappy fees for getting in aswell. That allows us to enter a club packed with men and about 10 girls dancing infront of the mirrors looking at themselfs like there in a dance video clip.

If you wan to go get some drinks why not just go to these places, no normal guy will say no to looking at cute girls while getting on drink.

But from the look of some of them girls i would rather not see up there skirts. :(

Osaka had most of the early girls bars and one of the first places called Bunnyz had monthly sales of around 10 million yen in 2005 which was pretty good going for a place which could only seat 15 customers. The cover charge was 820 yen and drinks the same. By the end of 2006, there were almost 100 girls bars all over the city. In Tokyo, there are around a 80 bars with a dozen in Shinjuku, about the same in Roppongi and, a little surprisingly, Ginza. Even Muse in Nishi Azabu runs a "Girls Bar" counter on Thursdays called Maneater.

The closest one to your office is probably City's Bar. Never been to it, mind you.

The real reason these clubs are opening up is that they can pay there staff about 1/3 to 1/4 of what they would pay hostesses for twice the work.

We had a murder in Matsuyama a couple of weeks ago and the victim was the manager of one of these club and was done in by a customer. Even as the manager she was basically making an Office Ladies salary.

The pay is certainly a lot less but I'm not sure I would say they work twice as hard. They don't sit with customers and therefore there isn't much in the way of physical contact, and they don't drink with the customers. I've seen hostesses get absolutely shit-faced hammered with customers... Doing that day in and day out has got to take a toll.

Most hostess clubs have a system where the hostess orders drinks (on the customers tab) using a "code" or gesture so that it looks like they are ordering/drinking something alcoholic (and therefore expensive) but are actually getting water or heavily watered down alcohol.

The only time a "smart" hostess should have to really be chugging alcohol is when they are trying to kill off a customer's keep or bottles so that the customer doesn't get to drink too much of it and ends up ordering more.

Even in those cases a lot of them go an puke it up immediately afterwards (which is obviously bad for the body in all sorts of other ways).

I've actually only been in hostess clubs two or three times (and a host club once), but I know wayyyyyy too many people who work/have worked in, run, or own them, which results in an amazing amount of useless knowledge about a world that is otherwise foreign to me :p

I'm glad to see the Asian's represented in the bars, because there's definitely a shortage behind bars! :p

Ashley sez:
I am a very sexy attractive young woman with a very exotic look. I have great hair, beautiful smile, body of a godess, with curves in all the right places, with a wonderful honey complexion to top it off. I am a single very mature lady looking for love and companionship. I am interested in all different types of men in my pursuit to meet Mr. Right. I am an independant woman, but of course I love to be spoiled. I am a sexy, sweet, smart, understanding, fun, out going person with a beautiful inside to match my appearance. There is so much more about myself I would love to share, so write me. I would love to get to know you. I am the complete package you've been looking for. - http://www.womenbehindbars.com/profiles/af9319.shtml

I'm trying to think of the questions that I would ask Ashley on our first date. I assume that if she just got released, she'd be pretty randy. Probably, I'd rent the movie Chained Heat with Linda Blair.

These bars are really just a cheaper solution to the hostess bars. I don't find them really appealing if you're forced to pay by the hour, but I guess they have to figure out a way to keep the girls around, eh? I'd be much more interested in a nice bar that just had a bunch of hot arse bartenders, but that's something that will never happen...

What's the difference between this and going to somewhere like Muse/911/Heartland and being surrounded by a bunch of money, gaijin hungry skanks? ;)

How about, "Soooo, what were you in for"?

Especially for the one's who mention they are in for 60 year sentences and such.

I think that site would be better if it listed their convictions next to their profile.

Interests: Long walks on the beach, dinner by candlelight
Sentence: 35 years for attempted homicide, 10 years for assault with a deadly weapon, 5 years additional for bad behavior while incarcerated

I think we can understand her crime better if we look more deeply into her interests.
Long walks on the beach
Meaning: Buried bf's new gf in a secluded area of a long-forgotten stretch of beach. Then,
Dinner by Candlelight
Meaning: Poisoned the bf and burned his house down.

Sounds reasonable, any chance of parole? Think she's got some dandy jailhouse tats?

I have a perfectly nice sofa right here at home that these girls can use (if they send a picture first so I can confirm their credentials). I do not understand why they are risking breaking the law by sitting on a sofa inside their place of business. That's crazy!

For 1,000-1,500 yen admission fee and 800 yen for drinks, it's more affordable for men to visit such places than hostess clubs
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I suppose that depends on how much the girls are!

The Tokyo Reporter has been giving regular coverage of Girls bars but there's been a new twist.

Unofficially, the line between a hostess club and a bar staffed with girls has been how the girls serve their customers. In a bar, you are not allowed to sit next to a customer while serving him drinks but you can serve him across a counter. Earlier in this thread, there's a case of a girls bar being busted because staff sat next to a guy on a sofa. In this news report (Japanese) a place in Akasaka has been closed down by police. One of the staff is quoted as saying "I thought it was OK if we were all standing". The police apparently don't share this view. Essentially, they are taking sterner view of how the bar represents itself. If they are soliciting business on the basis of having a staff of young girls then the police will regard them as a hostess club regardless of how they are set up. That should put the cat among the pigeons.

For Girls Bars, the main advantage of representing themselves as bars is that they can open until the early hours. They could become legal by applying for a hostess club licence but that would mean closing at midnight which would defeat the object.
