I wonder if something like this is going to effect his ability to make Major? From my understanding, it's extremely competitive to breach the level of Captain in the US Army and something like this is definitely considered a form of "failure" - especially for someone working in the Intel MOS.

One thing though, I could have sworn he was an Infantry officer. Or at least back when he was a butter bar lieutenant he was according to all those airsoft magazines...

SEATTLE - A Fort Lewis Army captain was sentenced Friday to a year and a day in prison for firearms smuggling conspiracy.

U.S. District Judge Marsha J. Pechman rejected a recommendation from both sides that Capt. Tomoaki Iishiba be spared time behind bars. She says the 34-year-old former Army intelligence liaison to the Japanese military showed poor judgment.

After serving his sentence, Iishiba faces three years on supervised release.

He pleaded guilty in July to arranging to send firearms parts to Japan without a license repeatedly since 2006. The components included 60 EoTech 553 holographic night vision sights.
