It was an idyllic scene as the husband walked with his wife to the station for her morning train to work. They parted reluctantly but shortly afterwards, the man was suddenly struck by an awful thought. "Darling, I don't have my keys," he shouted to his wife who was now standing on the platform across the tracks from him. She saw her train was about to pull in and took decisive action. "Here, have mine," she replied and threw her own keys towards him. According to the Asahi (Japanese), the throw was wayward and the keys lodged in overheard cables causing a forty minute delay during the early morning rush hour at Hamasaki JR station in Karatsu City, Saga prefecture (above). Through late trains and missed connections, it's estimated that around 8,600 people were affected. The wife had initially boarded the train but returned with her husband to the station half an hour later to make a grovelling apology. Station officials suggested through gritted teeth that they might consider handing over the keys directly in future. Since there was no malicious intent, however, they won't be seeking compensation from the couple. (spotted on Itai news)
