From CNN: Monkey triggers Tokyo subway chaos

I haven't heard jack about this on the news here. Did CNN get hoaxed?

TOKYO, Japan (CNN) -- A monkey stopped morning commuters in their tracks at one of Tokyo's busiest subway stations this week, as it curiously peered down at them from its perch atop the departures and arrivals board.

Monday marked the third time a monkey has been spotted in the capital this month -- surprising, because the beasts usually live in the mountains and hills outside Tokyo, more than a two-hour train ride away from the city center.

In the end, the monkey got away. But it was enough to make Japanese media go bananas.

A monkey was spotted in metropolitan Tokyo's Koganei city on August 12 and in Setagaya on Monday.

This was all over the J-news today and it got the whole office talking. We were all wanting to head out and look for the cheeky monkey and help him find his way home. (Our office is in Harajuku - the last known sighting of the monkey.)

I wouldn't go as far as saying cute, you obviously don't have them around your residence. I do and they are a pain in the arse. You can't leave anything outside that has a fragrance that could be construed as food or garbage. All trash pick-up points have to have monooki's or either the monkey's or tanuki will have the trash spread out over equivalent of about three city blocks in three seconds.

They raid gardens, rip up plants in the yard, devastate fruit trees and the like. They'll even come in your house if you leave a door open near any food. They have no frigging fear at all and are far from cute IMHO.

I wholeheartedly agree, love to live together in peace and harmony, but just in case, if it comes down to living with the cute critter or having to put a bullet....er, I mean dart, dart is what I meant and transferring it back, far, far back to the forest, than so be it.
As for the Tanuki, I'm from L.A. originally and when I was a teenager, I was chased by one that was for lack of words, very rabid(had the whole foam thing going on)so I know how vicious these guys can be.

I'm sorry, I was stuck in my Halloween costume, and my idiot friend told me that if I put 4 Alka-Seltzer tablets and a handful of habaneros in my mouth, it might loosen the zipper. Well, anyway, I kinda freaked out and was running down the hillside when I saw this guy drinking a Mountain Dew. I figured that your tasty beverage would at least take care of the new set of problems I was experiencing.
Shit, I'm totally sorry, you musta been freaked, I mean, you dropped that strange pipe thing you were smoking out of and bolted like Usain.

I don't put strange things in my mouth anymore in order to loosen my zipper, so you can also get over these deep-rooted memories from which you wake up at night screaming. Amazing how small this world really is, ne.

That might be nice in a perfect world, but in a lot of places to include the mountains in west Tokyo, they have over-bred (over popluated), they carry diseases, they have been known to attack, claw and bite children on the way to and from school. They destroy crops, scatter the trash, invade your space, kill small pets (cats and dogs) drop more turds than the all the dog walkers in Aoyama combined, but, they are cute.....

Because of my love for these cute little things, I have trained them. They will do a 90 degree turn any time they come near my property line and will come no closer. It only took a little TLC envolving my WHAM-O Slingshot and an assorted number of pachinko balls. They're cute, so they learn very fast......
