Get your carcinogenic Sake, Shochu and Rice crakers!

Postby TFG » Wed Sep 10, 2008 10:45 am

Tons of carcinogenic rice that was illegally sold as ingredients for Shochu, Sake & Senbei by Mikasa Foods.
And the Japanese complain about Chinese Gyoza while their own people sell them Carcinogenic Shochu, Sake & Senbei.

They're gonna link the ingredients to Korea or China somehow...
There's probably a group of lawyers working on it as we speak.
If they can't find a connection, it'll be the common

"Deny" -> "Deny" -> "Blame others in the company" -> "Deny" -> "Blame other companies" -> "Deny" -> Apologise.
I broke a mirror this morning, which means I should be getting 7 years of bad luck - but my lawyer says he can get me 5.

Yes, they are blaming it on Vietnamese rice the government had to import to abide by the WTO rules off limiting rice imports.
The true facts off the matter are that the Japanese government imports this rice quota and let's it rot to protect Japanese rice farmers profits.
Mikasa foods got the idea they can buy it for a pittance and resell it for human consumption. The ministry of farming and health obviously did not do it's job.

You're missing the point. Clearly it's the WTO's fault for forcing Japan to import rice from places like Vietnam, places that don't have the same regard for food safety as Japan.

I agree with you that the WTOs forcing of Japan to import rice is misplaced. And it's inevitable that Japan will let it turn to shit.
But I don't think the rice was in a poor condition before it came. If it was -they would've used Vietnam as a scapegoat much earlier.

Two more companies have just been discovered to have done the same thing.
I wonder if they were also doing it for the past 10 years as Mikasa Foods did?

What a joke...Perfect timing for the upcoming election.

Watching this on the news this morning.

They bought the stuff at the standard price for "industrial use rice" (what is that, anyway?) and then turned around and sold it at the standard "food use rice" price (more than twice as much), even going so far as to repackage it in the "correct" bags. Yeah, right, it wasn't their fault.
I have a blog. Last update: August 18, 2013.

Industrial use rice is for things like facial clensing exfoliants, sandblasting, filling agent, and bubble gum and toothpaste etc. There are many more uses for it that I can't think of. ^_~

As for rice though, how is rice carcenogenic? I mean, anything can be carcenogenic if breathed in, but once you boil rice and eat it, how's that going to hurt you?

That's where the good taste comes from. The carcinogens give it that little extra bite!

It has just emerged that the carcinogenic rice was served to people in over 110 old folks homes and hospitals in Kansai!
*************************************************
Asahi beer also used the tainted rice in making BEER!!!!!!!
*************************************************
Thank god I only ever drink Kirin!
Might be a good time to buy Kirin shares.

The reason this rice was reported to be carcinogenic is that it was tainted with amongst pesticides, a mold called Aflatoxin that is not only poisonous but can also cause cancer.

NHK is now backpedaling and saying the rice posed no danger to health, this is not what they reported over the last few days.
Not only are NHL lying, the announcer claims there is no risk to health then they cut to food specialist who says. "We are not sure if any medical problems can be caused by this as if the temp does not reach 250C the mold may continue to exist", how bloody ridiculous NHK is!

Aflatoxins are naturally occurring mycotoxins that are produced by many species of Aspergillus, a fungus, most notably Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus. Aflatoxins are toxic and among the most carcinogenic substances known.[1] After entering the body, aflatoxins are metabolized by the liver to a reactive intermediate, aflatoxin M1, an epoxide. Aflatoxin is frequently misspelled as "aflotoxin" and "alfatoxin", which could be confused with alpha toxin.

The ministry claims it sold tainted rice to firms who would use it to make industrial glue. This has come as a surprise to industrial glue makers who are now saying that corn starch, not rice, is used in the manufacturing process so they have no idea what the Ministry is on about. If true, then the whole premise behind the Ministry's sales has just been shot to pieces.

J-cast Japanese article here.

It was just announced on the news that products made from tainted rice were handed out at airports and it was fed to nursery school children at nurseries in and around Tokyo.

The morals of Japanese companies don't seem to be what they used to.
There again, they have probably always been like this, it just didn't get out that much.

It appears that the mouldy rice was also used by onigiri makers who supply convenience stores. The companies have identified a total of affected 102,053 rice balls.
