Failed "Earthquake Forecaster" Back Again

Postby Mulboyne » Mon Sep 29, 2008 9:30 pm

ZakZak reports a visit to Japan by Brazilian huckster Jucelino Nobrega Deroose who caused a minor media storm when he predicted a major earthquake in Asia last month. In a new TV appearance, he apparently responds to his critics, who note that nothing happened that day, and makes a new fraudulent forecast. The conman made his original claim during in a feature on TV Tokyo back in February and the same station will run this follow-up early next month. The programme's producer, who ought to be ashamed of himself, says that the intention is not to scare viewers but instead to raise questions about possible disasters and what countermeasures Japan might take. ZakZak reports that the faker talks of a cholera outbreak in Japan which will lead to shortages and military conflict.

And that natto will cure this cholera outbreak so we better start panicking and storm the grocery stores immediately.

James at Japan Probe has a detailed entry on the programme, including links:

More false predictions from Jucelino Nobrega da Luz

He also renders the guy's name as Jucelino Nobrega da Luz which, on a moments reflection, sounds far more Brazilian than the "Nobrega Deroose" which I seem to have written above.

From the Japan Probe piece that Mulboyne links to above:

A cholera outbreak will come from the sea and kill 5,000 Japanese between now and 2011

"...will come from the sea.."? Like Godzilla?

Jucelino explains that he is happy that his dream about an earthquake in Japan did not come true, and thinks it is a good thing that Japanese people heard about his warning and became more prepared for earthquakes.

Yeah, right. Without this fool people in Japan would never have realized that they may soon be hit by a big earthquake. I NEVER heard anyone talk about earthquake preparedness until he came around. :shake:
