When it was announced that the Kunitachi Station building was to be demolished, there were protests that a local landmark was under threat. To no avail, however, as the structure was dismantled at the end of 2006 -- eighty years after it first opened. Help is at hand, however. To help local residents overcome their sense of loss, the local chamber of commerce has commissioned a limited run of Kunitachi Station Building Kewpies:
