Shibuya Harnesses Pedestrian Power

There's a new gimmick on display in front of Shibuya station. Embedded in the floor are power generation tiles which register the energy of pedestrians walking or jumping on them and show the resulting kilowatt totals on an LED signboard.

I remember from a few years back the Discovery Channel had some Japanese engineer talking about this kind of plan. She even specifically mentioned using the crowds in Shibuya as the first site.
