The current report is that it was most likely death due to disease.

It was known that she was ill, and of course it could have been AIDS. But I do think it's unfair to jump to conclusions in that regard just yet.

She was found face down in her home with no signs of suicide, struggle, robbery, whatever.

Depending on the results and on whether the autopsy guy/girl receives his/her "shut the hell up about this, it was a natural death...undiagnosed somethingerother" money, may not find out what she actually died from.

Doubtful it was AIDS, they got the anti-retros here, and she would've been hosiptalized frequently, if it was in the final stages. Watched the news at the gym, they were pouring over her blog, highlighting the "sentimental, maybe fortelling of suicide or death from an incurable disease" parts, ie. "Mom & Dad arigato", etc etc.

I just read the article on asahi's website. It doesn't say she has AIDS, but she did attend an AIDS awareness event on the 6th this month. A paper on the 16th quoted her saying she will just started a new company that sells cosmetics online.

There is the rumor running that she tested positive and because of her previous "film" career, it is not to much of a stretch to see where the rumor rats could have picked it up. However, it would not be to difficult to see where if she tested positive, she might have wanted to end it J-style.

I personally think she had such a pure heart that she could not put up with her "dirty" past as a AV idol. Or after retiring AV idol, most of ones seem to feel the same way.

How sad. It's sad when anybody commits suicide for any reason. Ai was great. Even though people ridiculed her and brought up her rather sordid past for years, she kept smiling and built herself some respectability. It's a rare woman who leaves the Japanese entertainment on her own terms (whatever the motivation was).
Whatever killed her -- mental or physical illness -- I hope she rests in peace.
