Fifty-two foreigners smuggled into Japan and captured in Tokyo's Ginza district Thursday night were apparently on their way to a secret hideout, police said Saturday.
Police officers said smuggler Kazunori Yoshito, arrested along with the 52 foreigners, had rented a truck to transport the illegal entrants from Thursday afternoon to 5 a.m., Friday.
Talk about barbaric:
The police added that 25 handcuffs found inside the truck were to be used to restrain the foreigners.
They are questioning Yoshito and the 52 foreigners to determine whether the notorious Chinese smuggling ring, Snake Head, was involved, as they are infamous for detaining smuggled people until "smuggling fees" are paid.
