Apparently, the 22nd January was"Curry Day" in Japan. The national association of school nutritionists decided this back in 1982 so every elementary and middle school in the country served curry for lunch on Thursday. Also to mark the day, 7-11 and noodle maker Nissin came up with Black Curry Noodles. A representative of the store says that "black" is making something of a comeback. Black food booms are something of a recurring feature in Japan. Mari's blog detailed one back in 2005 while spaghetti nero, which uses squid ink, also seems to become wildly popular at regular intervals. The new black curry noodles cost 168 yen and are available in stores now.
