The LDP is a weird breed of good old fashioned narrow minded conservatism, and staunch liberalism. Examples such as cheering for Yasukuni but at the same time hiding behind their pacifist constitution. They lost power briefly in 1994 after some scandals allowed Japan socialists and other coalition weirdos make substantial gains A lot of gaijin people were trying to talk up Japan saying the property market would sky rocket once more and saying how Japan was a reliable tortoise but the dark writings were on the wall and the looming economic recession was going to hit. Japan's politics has become transparent, rigid, unimaginative and predictable.
