This time it's for real, they launched it at 11.30am this morning. J-TV news is going apeshit about it with lots of people talking really quickly showing all kinds of official looking documents and government emails. I really don't see what the big deal is, but then again I'm not Japanese and don't have a victimization complex.

The missle, eeerrr rocket seems to be working ok so far. The first stage fell into the Sea of Japan at 11.37am. Currently it's somewhere above us flying towards the Pacific. The hysteria on TV is amusing....

Now South Korea says that all three parts of the rocket fell into the ocean, thus stating that they did not in fact get a satellite into orbit.

Congrats North Korea in proving that your country is incompetent, lying, and uncompromising. What are you going to do for an encore? Thanks to the actions of today, you increased the number of people pissed off at you.

From the current CNN report: "Stage one of the missile fell into the Sea of Japan. The remaining stages along with the payload itself landed in the Pacific Ocean. No object entered orbit and no debris fell on Japan."

The common people are seriously oppressed, living in pitiful backward conditions, and in fact many are starving. So the pricks that are running the joint spend a bloody fortune on developing some very expensive hardware and then chuck it in the ocean in a bid to impress ... who?

Of course the North Koreans are claiming that the satellite launch was successful.

Also from the current CNN report: "North Korea's news agency said: 'Scientists and technicians of the DPRK have succeeded in putting satellite Kwangmyongsong-2, an experimental communications satellite, into orbit by means of carrier rocket Unha-2 under the state long-term plan for the development of outer space.'"

Yeah, right. Only another North Korean is going to believe that.

(Kwangmyongsong? Sounds like a pickup line I used once when very drunk, which worked about as well as the DPRK satellite launch.)

The pachinko owners who remitted a good portion of the money? It always comes off as the depths of absurdest theater when Japan fulminates over NK when it winks at a significant and very real NK fifth column in Japan that provides NK with foreign exchange and, in the words or the Yodobashi Camera Jingle, the finest in Japanese technology.

Maybe the NKs did indeed succeed.
After all, the missile did not hit Japan.

Just imagine what would of happened if it did.

I am kind of wishing something did happen, now all we are going to get in return is months of bullshit sanctions and diplomacy. If you want a war North Korea, you are going to have to be more proactive.

Diet told of interceptor response to N.K. launch

[YT]Qz1pAbugwQQ[/YT]

Defense Minister Naoki Tanaka said Monday he may order the Self-Defense Forces to shoot down the North Korean rocket purportedly carrying a satellite next month if it passes over Japan.

Tanaka said this in a Diet session, referring to actions the SDF may take in the event the rocket passes through Japanese airspace.

North Korea said Friday it hopes to place a Kwangmyongsong-3 domestically manufactured Earth observation satellite into orbit in mid-April, sparking widespread criticism that the launch is merely a test of a long-range ballistic missile.

"We will take the (necessary) procedures in the event of a contingency that threatens our country's security," Tanaka said, adding that the Defense Ministry plans to deploy ground-based Patriot Advanced Capability-3 interceptors and Aegis-equipped destroyers carrying ballistic missile interceptors.

Foreign Minister Koichiro Genba said at the same Upper House Budget Committee session that "the possibility cannot be ruled out that (the rocket) will pass over areas in Okinawa, such as the Nansei Islands."

The North has informed the International Maritime Organization and other official entities that the first stage of the rocket will come down in waters west of South Korea while the second stage will fall east of the Philippines.

Tanaka said Japan will continue to work closely with other nations to obtain accurate information about the planned rocket launch, and that at the moment, there are no concrete activities indicating a launch is imminent.

The defense minister also said he will use as reference his ministry's order during Pyongyang's long-range ballistic missile launch in April 2009.

Yasukazu Hamada, defense minister at the time, ordered the SDF to destroy the North Korean rocket or its debris in the event it fell onto Japanese territory.

Source.

Just wondering what the defense minister at the time actually meant by this last sentence... Destroying debris beyond destruction?!?

Would still be hilarious for Japan to shoot it down before it reaches orbit or whatever it's real target is. I'd love to see the North Korean news woman explain that one.

Shooting down anything coming from the loony bin would not qualify as a smart move... Always beware of young dictators in need to fill shoes too big for them.

I think the explanation might take the form of a rain of missiles over Japan... It don't matter if 90% fall in the sea or is intercepted. It would be a considered a "strong answer" no matter what. And their newscaster can then report on the son of their deity properly defending the motherland against them japz.

I considered that but I doubt they would be so bold as to get obliterated by the backlash. ( I also doubt they have any usable missiles left...where do you think they got the parts for this "satellite" :D )
