Nagoya Taxman Arrested For Selling Phones Illegally To Foreigners

Postby Mulboyne » Thu Apr 30, 2009 3:44 pm

An employee of the Nagoya Tax Bureau has been arrested by police on suspicion of illegally selling mobile phones to foreigners lacking sufficient residency qualifications or ID. His family runs an office supplies company which also handled phones. The man, said to be in his fifties, worked with this business and would register handsets in his own name before selling them on. His involvement came to light following the arrest of an Iranian drug dealer who had two phones which were traced back. The phones had apparently changed hands several times. Police say that the man has admitted selling the phones illegally but said that he had no idea they were being used by drug dealers.
