[floatr]Image[/floatr]A doctor has been arrested on sexual assault charges. Yoshiaki Horie (right) was conducting an endoscopic colon examination of a patient in her twenties when his knowledge of human biology deserted him and he attempted to insert the endoscope up her fanny. The woman protested but the registered nurse who attended the examination was momentarily absent so there was no witness to the incident. This all took place in May 2004 but the woman only notified police of her complaint in February of this year because the statute of limitations comes into effect five years after the crime. She decided that she didn't want to see the doctor escape justice and realized the police would need to investigate her claims if they were to make an arrest in time.

NTV report here.

So if there was no statute of limitations, she wouldn't say anything ?
I broke a mirror this morning, which means I should be getting 7 years of bad luck - but my lawyer says he can get me 5.

If this was an American patient seeing a British doctor, I'd say it was an honest mistake.

I'm not sure I understand everything I understand about this chick's claim. The definition of a Colonoscopy is an endoscopic examination of the colon, accessed through the "fanny". So what is her gripe? Did she go in for a sore throat and he tried to stuff her with the scope? Did the scope have a set of balls on it? I mean the "fanny" is the only normal door to the colon, so what did she expect? Maybe she's mad that he couldn't get it in, or the nurse was there to cheer. Just sounds a bit strange....

But even in the US, who the fuck says "fanny" anymore. I have visions of this dude sitting on top of her and trying to feed a lengthy piece of coax cable up her twot.....

Fanny means the other hole to Brits but it would imply the colon area to us seppos.

Yeah, it sounds like something was lost in translation here. Could be, though, that he was supposed to be doing an upper endoscopy, which is generally done with a camera down someone's throat (or now, in a capsule swallowed by the patient). He may have used force, which IMHO is grounds for assault charges but it sounds more like a medical error than an eichi attack. (He is a creepy-looking guy, though...)

Hold on. I thought a colonoscopy was performed through the rectum as backed up by WebMD;

How Is the Procedure Performed?

The procedure is performed by a doctor experienced in colonoscopy and lasts approximately 30-60 minutes. Medications will be given into your vein to make you feel relaxed and drowsy. You will be asked to lie on your left side on the examining table. During a colonoscopy, the doctor uses a colonoscope, a long, flexible, tubular instrument about 1/2 inch in diameter that transmits an image of the lining of the colon so the doctor can examine it for any abnormalities. The colonoscope is inserted through the rectum and advanced to the other end of the large intestine.

So why with the fanny shit? All you are gonna hit is the uterus and ovaries....am I missing something here?

OK, let's get right down to it. As someone mentioned earlier, the word fanny in American English means butt, while in British English it means vagina. Clearly, whoever wrote the article was using the British English meaning ... or is a complete moron; take your pick.

As the English bilinguals say, I was using the British meaning of "fanny", forgetting that it has a different association for Americans. Of course, this opens up a new line of defence for the accused: "I learned how to perform the procedure from an American medical textbook which I cross-referenced with a British dictionary".

I was also wondering "WTH?" when they said fanny... I had no idea that fanny in English-English meant meat curtains.

OK, I finally got it!

That's what I love about this forum, I wouldn't get that info anywhere else. Yeah, fanny=ass still gets used here occasionally, not just in "fanny pack", but by sweet old-fashioned granny-types as well.

It's considered more polite than ass, or butt - more like "bottom".

Yeah, I had some explaining to do many years ago when an Aussie girl stopped abruptly in front of me on some stairs and I said something about nearly hitting her fanny...

At least they shouldn't have been surprised at getting fucked...
