KANAZAWA —
A mystery is deepening in Ishikawa Prefecture after dead fish were found on the ground this week following the discovery of a large number of dead tadpoles in parking lots earlier this month. Local residents speculate that the tadpoles and fish might have fallen from the sky after being sucked up by a waterspout or carried by birds. But the cause has not been confirmed.
About 10 dead fish 2 to 3 centimeters long were found Tuesday near the house of a 78-year-old man and on a minivan in the town of Nakanoto in the prefecture. There is no river running near the house.
On June 4, about 100 dead tadpoles were found in a parking lot in the city of Nanao in the prefecture or on the windshields of cars after a 55-year-old man heard an unusual noise that sounded like something falling.
Some 20 to 30 dead tadpoles were also discovered last Saturday in a parking lot in the city of Hakusan in the prefecture.
