Asahi: Woman, twice deported, back again
A South Korean woman who has been deported twice was arrested on suspicion of illegally entering Japan, Tokyo police said Wednesday. Ju Min Kyung, a 32-year-old bar hostess, apparently slipped through a system that uses fingerprints and other biometric data to identify people who have been deported, police sources said. She admitted to illegally entering Japan but denied allegations she got around the biometric detection system. The suspect was first deported in 2002 and then in October 2008. Police believe there are many deported South Koreans working as bar hostesses after illegally entering the country.
In spite of all the rationales originally put forward, you almost never hear fingerprinting described as an anti-terrorism measure these days.
