Marks of the prison `torture belt'
Jan 31 2003 /The Western Mail - The National Newspaper Of Wales
..shocking images of brutality depict injuries suffered by a Welsh teacher being held in a Japanese prison for a crime he has always denied.
The pictures, passed on exclusively to The Western Mail, show injuries suffered by Patrick Loughlin after he was tied up at Japan's Nagoya Detention Centre in leather restraints and body belts

wow! I've heard the japanese jails were bad, but i had no idea they were THAT BAD!!! 8O

If this guy is innocent, which he seems to be from the way the story was written and the facts have been laid out, I hope this guy gets out soon. And then I hope he finds some way to seek revenge on the f*cked up legal system and those who caused him harm and grief...

poor guy! that's horrible!

Truly Fucked Gaijin

Postby GuyJean » Fri Jan 31, 2003 8:40 pm

Man, that sucks.. I have a couple ideas but don't know if they'll help.

* Get Amnesty's local representative in there to poke their nose around.
* Call a foreign documentary company to 'inquire' to the local authorities.
* Rent a DigiBeta Cam and stage a ficticious news report outside the jail.
* Call BBC for a REAL news report.
* Make some signs in Japanese and get some people to walk around city hall for a couple days.
* Hand out fliers, in Japanese, explaining what's happened.
* Make the 'free Patrick' website in Japanese, post it all over the net on various Japanese message boards.
* Educate the English teacher masses of the situation, and have them 'discuss' it in class.

Outlandish, but more proactive ideas:

* Get arrested yourself to keep him company
* Buy some small arms from the Russians in Hokkaido, kill the judge, then torture his family.
* Make a claim that Patrick is the cloned baby, and have him summoned to the ICJ.
* Jaiiiilbreak!
* Pay the Yaks to help you. They need the money.

Sorry.. This is no laughing matter, but there's not much hope for an arrested Fucked Gaijin. Especially with the incompetence of the WHOLE judicial system in japan. You'd get a fairer trial in a developing country. Come to think of it, shouldn't Japan be considered 'undeveloping' by now 8O

You could ask Captain Japan to write something about it, and I'll put it on TokyoDV.

Good luck!

Jaiiiilbreak! sounds the best to me. If you remember, Iranians bust out of Fuchu Prison Tokyo a few years ago without much effort. The just pushed the wimpy guards who are not armed.

I hate to say it, but Pat's Plight sounds like something that happen to any of us ...
Pat Loughlin had married a Japanese girl named Tae and moved to Japan to live with her in 1985. Pat enjoyed living in Japan where he had many friends, and was working as an English teacher.
On October 30th 1999 Patrick Loughlin was drinking in a bar when he was attacked by a number of Japanese men , brandishing weapons. His only acquaintance in the bar tried to stop the attack but unfortunately was knocked to the floor and banged his head. Mr Jinnau unfortunately died a week later from a brain haemorrhage.
Police arrive to find Patrick being beaten with weapons by a number of Japanese nationals and arrest him one hour later.

Well, here's another one ...
Ex prisoner seeks state compensation for prison beatings
A former inmate of Takamatsu Prison filed a lawsuit Friday with the Tokyo District Court seeking some 26 million yen in compensation from the government for abuse he allegedly suffered at the hands of prison guards....

Hmmm... I guess that means you need to make friends with someone somewhat important at the embassy... at least friendly enough to get one of those handy-dandy diplomatic badges. ;)

Good luck to this guy, and I guess it would be a good idea for me to touch base with an English-speaking lawyer BEFORE all this happens... 8O

There has to be more to this story right?
I mean... He was being beaten at the time the cops arrived and he got arrested? WTF?

Check out this page if you are in Osaka and cannot speak Japanese.

I am sure there are similar sites for Tokyo.

N. Wales prisoner is released from Japan
icNorthWales / Sep 5 2003
A NORTH Wales man jailed in Japan after a violent bar brawl tasted freedom yesterday after nearly four years behind bars .
The ordeal of 34-year-old Patrick Loughlin, from Penley, Wrexham, ended as he walked out of a prison in Osaka....
...Mr Loughlin was working in Kariya, Japan, when he was involved in a brawl when a man died after falling and hitting his head on a wall.
Despite being confronted with men brandishing weapons, including a Kendo sword, Loughlin was the only person arrested and charged
His original lawyer could not speak English and against Mr Loughlin's instructions entered a guilty plea on his client's behalf.

Can you not get gaijin counsel in Japan or do they force a J-attorney on you? Can you not represent yourself in a Japanese court?

I feel for the guy, but then he was different so he must have been responsible for the death.. after all he is gaijin. Japanese citizens would never kill each other.
:D

Glad to hear Patrick L. is free. I wonder if he will visit a kaiten sushi joint before his return home?

That guy Patrick and I taught at the same school but at different times.

Have yall heard about the case of Nick Baker? Maybe this is a greater injustice: Justice for Nick Baker
