For me it's one of those fucked up superficial annoying fashion... It's not people who love history, it's attention whore with a look at me attitude. Sure sound better on a resume than stating "nail carving" as a hobby... But it's an insult for people in the field...

History is a psychological minefield where you have to explore all version of the events to try to make your own understanding of it. It's not like science who (usually) expose the... known knowns, known unknowns, unknown known and unknown unknowns (yeah... i'm quoting that guy... for one of the only interesting thing he said). Or mathematics...

It's not something you can read aboot in your weekly booby mag... it requires... TO QUESTION books and their authors... and TO THINK... that's out of their reach...
