Japan PM's wife question's ability of husband to lead in new book
WORLD News | TVNZ.co.nz | July 23, 2003
Japan's first lady has written a book publicly questioning her husband's ability to lead the country titled What on earth will change in Japan now you are Prime Minister?.
Naoto Kan became leader of the world's second largest economy last month.
In the book his wife, Nobuko, writes a long list of his failings.
She criticises his delivery of his first policy speech in parliament, as well as his fashion sense and inability to cook...more...

ummm many wives say a lot of BS, seriously.

BUT

when the PM's wife writes a book about how shitty her husband is... you have to take that as a, "get the hell out of office PM" and give 'em the boot.

Also, a PM with a wife who is coo-coo should also be booted... he already quit, but still.

Whats next? "I became PM so my wife would get more "clients" at her hostess bar. Now my wife wrote a book explaining how to run a business off your husbands work..."

</tyrant off>

What an incredibly stupid, arrogant thing for a politician's wife to do.

Laura Bush referred to herself as a desperate housewife once on camera.

You didn't see her for MONTHS in public after that. Maybe a whole year.

Kan needs to learn how to keep his ho in check.

But seriously, regardless of how you feel about the guy politically, that's pretty fucking low class of his wife to do.

I'd give her the back hand but I am sure she got the prior consent of approval. This may give PM Kan't a rather positive rating boost as he may be seen as the common man.

In a sense... it's still better than explosive bloody diarrhea...

(ain't it a bit scary when you realise this previous statement was just a straightforward observation, without any rethorical twist aiming at scatological humor...)

I can't believe it'll help him in any way. Public image and confidence play a large role in how far the public will follow a politician. The better the public image, the more freedom the politician has to implement strategies that might actually improve things (if he/she has any, that is).

"First ladies" like Hatoyama and now Kan just want to step out and bask in the spotlight. But that's a stupid thing to do if any concern for the husband's career and success is involved. First ladies should be polite, keep their mouths shut, and stay the fuck out of the way. If they want to run the show they should become politicians themselves and work their way up.

To me it just looks like Celebrity Wife Syndrome (I just made that up, but think Satchi Nomura). J-women in particular seem to need to believe that their man would be totally lost without them. It's a self-esteem issue that's fine in the home, but when they actually start believing that they need to be in control of all aspects of their man's life, professional included, they just get in the way. And before anyone accuses me of being sexist, I'm not. I'm talking about women who suddenly feel qualified to step out of the home and rule the world when their husband achieves a position of leadership. Competent women who work hard and lead are a different story altogether.

Would you say the same thing about Hilary Clinton?
Granted she's not a J-wife, but some had accused her of the same thing, but look where she is now...Secretary of State.

One way to think about this is that they are closer to their husbands than anyone else it may be that the political moves they're making are based on consultations at home with their wives. Perhaps the wife sees that her advice isn't all bad and since the kids have left home, maybe they feel they want to step into the political arena.
Or perhaps they're being disrespected at home and feel they want to prove themselves.

No. Hillary Clinton is a qualified, experienced, and competent lawyer. She has worked frickin' hard to get where she is. Definitely not the type of coattail-rider that I'm talking about. She was involved in law and politics before hubby became president.

I suspect that might be some of the psychology that's at work, but discussing politics over dinner does not qualify one to be prime minister, or do anything that might affect the operation of government. That's where the the stupidity comes in. I talk to my wife about my job, but that doesn't mean she can do it.

It's hard to be supportive of Mrs. Kan in this venture. Hubby has got a hard enough job as it is...yet, the Japs love playing the hard-done-by, so this ploy may prove to be worthwhile for the PM's political career.

The Shaming from the Shrew
[floatl]Image[/floatl]Japan's embattled leader Naoto Kan has again been mauled in public by his famously sharp-tongued wife. Nobuko Kan, 65, told reporters yesterday that she regularly berates her husband and would not marry him again if given a second chance. "I've already lived this life and it's not fun to repeat the same thing," she said. "I would want to have a totally different life."

Asked about the Prime Minister's bruising daily encounters in parliament as he battles to revive Japan's inert economy and reverse a growing social malaise, Mrs Kan, married for 40 years, offered less-than-enthusiastic support. "Considering that he has been a bully himself for years, it's only his due now that he's a member of the ruling party," she said. "I guess the challenge for him is how will he take it? We're both similar personalities: good at attacking people but not so good at taking it."

She added that she was surprised there is so much interest in her. "I'm nothing special, I think of myself as just a housewife."

This woman is an idiot. No matter how well or how badly hubby is doing in office the only right thing for her to do is to provide support in the media or any public capacity. It's either that or shut up (the latter being preferable). Save the personal opinions for chit-chat with friends. The same goes for Hatoyama's spotlight-loving wife. These women don't seem to understand that their "celebrity" is not their own.

I betcha ol' Naoto is thinking "hell, I wouldn't marry that bitch again if I had a second chance either."
