Massive public backlash greets proposal for visa-free Koreans
"FOREIGNERS are already responsible for Japan's rising crime rate. Easing immigration regulations will only make the situation worse;"

"WE can't overlook the fact that letting people in without restrictions will only serve to make Kyushu a less safe place to live in;" and,

"KYUSHU should be closed off to the rest of the world."

Check out these quotes from the Japanese alterantive press...
North Korean Missiles Target Japan
Japanese law enforcement authority said, "These spies are expected to be hiding near towns next to US and SDF bases in Japan. There is a possibility that some of them are secretly working within those bases as employees. Nuclear power plants are considered to be in the same situation as those of the military bases. The spies may attack those nuclear plants,

"If they attack ports, they may poison drinking water. When they attack airports, they may cut the electricity of the control tower. ... We must prepare for them."

Japanese government would not be able to do anything to defend against an attack by North Korean missiles. According to the defense guideline of the Japanese government, when the first missile hits Japan, the SDF will be sent to deal with the disaster. When the second missile hits, prime minister will order the SDF to take the field. Even if the SDF and Police Departments conduct simulation test against terrorist attacks, they have no guideline to implement it.

Why is it so difficult for the Bush administration to employ the Kennedy doctrine in this situation? "Any missile launched from North Korea against any target in the Eastern Hemisphere will be considered an attack directly upon the United States, requiring a full retaliatory response". That would guarantee to the Japanese, South Koreans, Taiwanese, Australians, and other friendly governments that the United States will protect them from Fat Bastard's nuclear blackmail.

A United Asia incubated under a US nuclear umbrella.

'No fucking way' say conservative thinkers in the US. We did that for Europe with NATO and look where that got us. The EC for crying out loud.

Current US thinking in Asia is what is always has been - divide to conquer. Sad but true.

Foreign Ministry strongly lambasted Japan's education minister for lauding the omission in new Japanese history textbooks of references to "comfort women," one of the most controversial revisions that prompted furious protests from Korea and China earlier this year.

"We express grave regret over the extensively inappropriate remarks that once again seriously damage and dishonor the comfort women victims," Foreign Ministry spokesman Lee Kyu-hyung said, answering reporters' questions at a news briefing
......
Late last month remarks by Japan's Vice Foreign Minister Shotaro Yachi that the United States does not full trust South Korea caused a major uproar between the countries, eventually resulting in apology by Yachi.
Last year Nakayama faced sharp criticism from Asian countries by saying that the controversial textbooks were better because they carried fewer descriptions of arbitrary arrests of young men and sex slaves. The minister also emphasized it was time to boost Japan's patriotism.
The controversial textbooks are to undergo a schools' selection process in August for use in secondary schools starting next year.
A number of civic groups are currently conducting wide campaigns in Japan urging parents and teachers to prevent distribution of the textbooks in question. Some of the textbooks also claim Japan has legal sovereignty over Korea-controlled Dokdo islands in the East Sea.
The Japanese Education Ministry approved all of the revised textbooks this April, prompting emotional public rallies and protests across Korea and China.

Historians say at least 200,000 young women, mostly Korean but also from Taiwan, China, the Philippines and Indonesia, were forced to serve as sex slaves in Japanese army brothels during World War II.

In April, the Japanese education ministry authorized for school use a nationalist-written history textbook that makes no reference to comfort women and avoids the word "invasion" to describe Japan's aggression.
