10,000 yen is a lot to be paying for a bottle of Mon Frere.

Perhaps they need to consult a different sommelier.

Are you kidding? This is government we are talking about. You can't even buy a Chinese-made wrench at that price...

With those prices, I think NASA must be their sommelier. Wait until we find out how much the toilet seats cost.

Too true...if they're as pricey as I fear they may be, we could be seeing the emergence of an entirely new meaning of the phrase "Holy Shit."

The wine cellar at the Japanese OECD office could cover the entire Japanese diplomatic core's needs, with a few thousand bottles to spare. NASA-like redundancy must be in play.

Wait until we find out how much the toilet seats cost.

At least with the those TOTO toilet seats your ass will be clean.

Just wait until they start wearing neckties and sitting in chairs. It's enough to make one vomit.

I don't know which is more disgusting:

1. That not a few of these diplomats probably "disposed of" the wine directly into their briefcases to be "disposed of" at home.

OR

2. They actually did dump all that wine down the drain.

Probably #2.

Fuck. Next time I get harassed (via a government contract I'm associated with, nice money, but almost not worth the damned paperwork, at least at my lowly level where I don't have a secretary to do all this crap for me) for a detialed receipt AND ryoshusho AND photographic proof that I bought something for 200 yen, I'll be sure to write "NO DIPLOMAT WINE" in big red font on everything.

Can I pay my taxes with empty wine bottles if I have the receipts?

Most Japanese could not tell a difference between an over-priced $500 French Bordeaux and a $5 Australian box wine.

There isn't much difference after the first few casks...

Bordeaux is another story, that is actually really good wine and can be traded at higher value in cash if you want to buy something that you dont have cash for. I haven't even seen a bottle of bordeaux in a while... not so common to run accross unless there is a really special occasion.

thats why you drink 1 or 2 drinks of the good shit first, then chug the rest of the nasty shit afterwards... it all tastes the same after the 3rd or 4th drink..

Right...unless you're Jesus.
Why don't fundamentalist Christians forget about that Creationist bullshite and play up the story of Jesus getting everybody happy and loving by turning water into wine at the wedding in Cana?

Why pay that for some "fancy" French wine when you can get two bottles of Mon Frere at the Family Mart for the same price? Mon Frere is your friend.

If you are in the ghetto, then there is the grape juice / Takara shochu bomb.
