Perske reportedly admitted to having the drug, telling investigators that he had intended to take it himself.

Sure he was. I'll bet he was on his way to Roppongi to sell some to Norippi :liar:

The 36-year-old professional, in Japan for the Bridgestone Open, is suspected of possessing 1.25 grams (0.044 ounces) of cocaine at a bar in Chiba, southeast of Tokyo, said a spokesman for Chiba Central Police Department.

A customer at the bar late Friday reported to the police that a foreigner had a suspicious substance, leading officers to search and arrest him, a police officer was quoted by Kyodo News as saying.

Perske reportedly admitted to having the drug, telling investigators that he had intended to take it himself.

Some people just can't mind their own business. Seriously, who would go rat someone out for having some white powder in a place where they are imbibing another drug?

A Japanese male....especially if it was a foreign male with the goods.

short story:
my wife and i were fighting infront of her parents

she mentions my old days (5+ years ago) of smoking weed to Father-in-Law and that my roommate at that time was Japanese

FIL said he will call the cops on my J friend for doing mariwa-na

I asked him if he would call the police on his children for the same reason

He told me that none of his children would never ever do such a thing

I told him that you dont know that much, but if you are going to call the police, your kids will also go down with my friend and me (still note that this is something 5+ years in the past...)

End of conversation, he shutted the fuck up.

Moral
The drugs broght in to Japan are by Japanese people, not the runner, but the person who is buying it.

The drugs are intended for Japanese people obviously... the population of FG's wouldn't make near enough money as the costs to import/produce/prepare for sales.

Nipponjin are affraid of the fact that it is done for them by them and that getting an FG to blame or put on the cover makes Nipponjin feel good and safe...

Hide from the truth now and it reams you ass later.

That's one area where change is a happening in Japan, it seems. More lawsuits, and more chance for Joji Suzuki to win some of them now and then. While I realize this isn't an ordinary lawsuit, it does seem to be part of the larger trend of people getting some decent defense, and occasionally coming out on the right side of things.

Err.. what are you on about? It isn't a lawsuit - it was a criminal trial.

And, how does a suspended sentence for possession of cocaine make it an example of "coming out on the right side of things"?

Unless you happen to be a celebrity who is being set up as an example, as long as you are reasonably wealthy, have the good fortune to possess the right connections and the good sense to retain a good lawyer, the odds of getting lenient treatment compared to the Regular Joe is quite good. Basically the same formulae for 'success' in most parts of the world. Money talks.

I don't think Japan has ever fancied putting high profile foreign sportsmen or celebrities in jail for drug offences. Better to get a conviction, give a suspended sentence, deport the individual and keep them out of the country.

From that perspective, the Aussie didn't have a particular ace lawyer, he just got the usual treatment. Cantopop singer Jill Vidal was convicted for possessing heroin and her sentence was suspended for 2 years.

Aussie golfer's Japanese drug hell
Sunday Herald Sun January 09, 2011 12:00AM
AUSTRALIAN golfer Wayne Perske has spoken for the first time about a harrowing stint in a Japanese prison on drug charges.
Perske was arrested and charged with possessing cocaine in October last year and spent 25 days in jail...
...
"At some stage during the evening I tried to take my mobile phone out of my pocket, and the small packet of cocaine that I had in there fell out on the floor," Perske said..."This was noticed by one of the bar staff, and...The next thing I knew I was taken to the police station," he said. "The cells are small. You share them with one or two other inmates. There are no seats, no beds.
"You sit on the concrete floor from 6am 'til 7pm when you are given a mat to sleep on.
"The lights stay on 24 hours a day, you are only allowed to wash twice a week, and every meal is white rice, dried fish and pickles. There was no TV, and no one in there spoke any English."

I wonder which bar he was at?

Here's a half-assed version of Japanese legal Jackass...

Have a small clear plastic sachet of white powder 'accidentally' fall from your pocket in the same manner. Except in this case, it just so happens to be your favorite non-sugar sweetener for your coffee or tea. Don't be so forthcoming during your detention by the police however. The longer you stay, the more you can try and hit up the establishment for defamation or whatever bullshit claims you and your shyster lawyer can dream up -all the while being careful to make certain it is not considered extortion. Chimpira and burakumin do this all the time.

Only 25 days? He would be on death row if it were Thailand or Singapore (or some pretty stiff penalty).

Don't know where you are getting your information but Japanese police can hold you for 21 without charging you. They are not required to apologize nor are you able to sue them for defamation.

Had an ex-girl friend that was arrested on meth charges but when nothing was found she was let go. She tried to sue for an apology from the police but was not allow to. She was a photo model and has not been able to work as one since. This was 18+ years ago, but I don't know that anything has changed...

Yeah, I know that part about the police which is part of the reason why I indicated it was a "Jackass" type move. I was wondering whether one might be able to hit up the bar that reported him to the police ... (also a Jackass-type reason that borders on extortion and general assholery).
