A 4-ton truck rammed into the campaign office of a candidate running for a seat in the Ibaraki prefectural assembly on Sunday in Ishioka in the eastern Japanese prefecture, killing one man, police said. The police are searching for the truck's driver, who was wearing a ski mask, on suspicion of killing Toshio Toita, 62, an uncle of the candidate. The truck backed into the office Sunday morning and then hit Toita, who tried to stop the vehicle, as it fled the scene, according to the local police. Toita was taken to a hospital but died, the police said. The truck, which had been stolen, was found abandoned about 800 meters from the office. The candidate, Kazuyuki Toita, 46, told a press conference that the tires of six vehicles, including his election campaign car, parked near his office were found punctured and a fire extinguisher had been let out inside the office on Saturday morning. "I have no idea (why these things are happening). I am outraged by these despicable acts," he said.
Toita won the election but. as you can see from the photo, he had mixed emotions on the night.
