Jianjiji #20, or the J-20.

On 29 December 2010, the right estimable China Defense Blog published the first no-kidding photographs of the long rumored J-XX Chinese stealth fighter. Unambiguous confirmation of the existence of this program will require re-evaluation of aircraft modernization efforts in a number of countried, including Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, and the United States. Chinese combat aviation has made remarkable strides in recent years, moving from a collection of obsolete aircraft that would have provided a target-rich environment to potential adversaries. Today China flies hundreds of first rate aircraft, and even flies more Sukhoi Flankers [the aircraft the American F-22 was designed to counter] than does Russia. The Chinese stealth fighter has arrived right on schedule. Chinese military technology is generally rated about two decades behind that of the United States. while the advent of a Chinese counterpart to the F-22 fighter might be disconcerting, the first flight of the prototype American F-22 stealth fighter came on September 29, 1990.

You know what they say... if it looks right, it flies right. In which case it might be some time before we see pictures of this thing in the air.

Happy new year everyone!

I'm wondering if it has thrust-vectoring.

I wonder how many they'll be able to afford.

No thrust vectoring nozzles to be seen, and from the looks of it as maneuverable as a vault door. It's a nice stealthy bomber.

Thrust vectoring noozles can be deceptively bland looking (especially on fuzzy pictures taken from a wee bit too far):

The problem with this jet is that even if it did have thrust vectoring nozzles, they would be ineffective as the engines are placed too close together. They would only be able to generate a pitching moment, but are placed too close together to generate any meaningful roll moment when actuated in opposition.

All them chinks look alike to some...

Usually the peoples who think Japanese Chinese and Taiwanese are the same that have troubles with the fact that Iraq and Turkey are part of Asia... But they can describe for hours how the Nazy bombed Pearl Harbour...

Books... how the fuck do they works ? that's a fucking miracle...

When a Block 40 F-22C Raptor gets its first gun kill of a J-20 in 2028, it will at least be full of STEALTH HOLES.

They make the plane go stealthier!

F22 got a gun ? so we are again at this step in the vicious circle of life of aircraft design ? can't wait to see some brass decide that flashy tail colors are also back in fashion...

The F-22 has always had a gun.

It's an M61A2, the lightened version of the Vulcan with 480 rounds (which is only enough for a 4.8 second burst).
