Japan Mulls to Move Capital over Disaster Worries
Sofia News Agency | April 14, 2011
As powerful earthquakes continue to jolt Japan and radiation levels near Tokyo are rising, the Asian country's authorities are considering moving the capital to another city.
The most probable location for a new capital are Osaka and Nagoya, according to ITAR-TASS :liar: ...The main conditions the new capital has to provide are a population over 50 000 and a sufficient capacity to accommodate the parliament, the government, the Emperor's residency and the foreign diplomatic missions...more...

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Nagoya is a bit crowded already... Won't Hokkaido be a little more interesting ?

Shaking a bit all the time, volcano, snakes, wolves, fucking bears... But plenty of flatland...

...according to ITAR-TASS...

sounds like reliable information to me.

I did have to check the posting date of the article to make sure it was not April first.

Why not create a new capital in one of those places they were considering before? Anything to help lower retarded expensive land prices.

Why not go away with the concept of capital and split the roles everywhere...

Every couple of year they dust off that fetid smelling plan to move the government some wipe my ass village in the middle of Gifu or some such place. I'm sure they have a whole section in the Public Works Ministry planning the damn thing and waiting for it to get the green light so they can comfortably take their amakudari appointments to the boards of the construction firm that will build it.

The plan is so 1960ish. Hey, let's build two airport for a city (rather than a single intregrated facility) and connect them with a monorail. Hey, let's fill in the that bay and build Dutch style polders because we have such a shortage of agricultural lands. Hey we need a new capital so we can emulate such great capital cities like Brazilia or Canberra.

Wouldn't it be a hell of a lots cheaper to decentralize departments and move out those sections of government which have no need to be in Tokyo to the regions?

This is probably an even better idea. Spread the wealth instead of concentrating it in large cities.

Maybe if they move everything to Nagoya, AK will move back to Japan!

The problem isn't just having the political figures in one basket... the entire country is basically run from Tokyo. When the big one hits, there's a large chance of global recession since everyone that pulls the strings for these companies will be, at best, displaced.

Had a good drunken chat about this last night. They need to give massive tax breaks for companies that build outside of Kantou. The inaka needs repopulation... plain and simple.
