A local paper in Koriyama, Fukushima, called "The Weekly" carried an article from a university professor from the Kyushu Institute of Technology claiming that he didn't suffer from the radiation he was subjected to as a victim of the atomic bomb in Nagasaki. The professor in question, Tastsuro Miyazato, has denied writing the piece and is considering legal action. The article had Miyazato saying that he ate all kinds of fish and vegetables from the irradiated area and suffered no ill consequences. The article even suggested that many who did the same had enviable longevity. Miyazato says he doesn't know anyone at the paper. The article also refers to him as the president of Kyushu Tech but he retired from that position eight years ago. What appears to have happened is that Miyazato spoke privately with a colleague in Koriyama and the content of that exchange, which also continued via email, was passed on to the paper who dressed it up as an article. When the article was published, it immediately drew criticism for being unscientific. The publisher has apparently apologized to Miyazato, saying that they thought his words in private might provide encouragement to the citizens of Fukushima.
