Danny Choo Visits Tohoku

5 months have passed since the Tohoku Kanto earthquake. I'm currently in a small town called Onagawa which was completely destroyed by the tsunami. Before coming to Onagawa, I spent a day in Ishinomaki - everything on low ground was destroyed but many houses on high ground still stand and life is slowly getting back to normal.

Onagawa however is silent. We went in the evening where most of the workers clearing up the area had gone home for the day. There is nobody left in the town apart from a few of us from the Peace Boat volunteer team.

Danny used Google Map Street View with some of his own photos to post some before and after photos from Tohoku.

Hopefully Mr Choo gets no radiation poisoning because we all know how much of a cultural icon he is. He is very brave or stupid, I cannot work out which.

Mr. Choo is not going to get radiation poisoning because radiation and its health effects work according to the way science describes, not the made up science fiction version of radiation that many people on the Internet seem to believe. Why would he become the first person in Japan to get ill from radiation poisoning? Are you sure it's him that is being stupid? Please, I would really love to hear the steps that you think would lead to him getting radiation poisoning by visiting Onagawa.

Taro, indeed. It sounds impressive (and I believe it), and furthermore I've heard that he is financially independent, and not living off of his [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Choo]father's
fortune.

But I always got the impression that his house was out near Musashi-Koyama in Shinagawa-ku. He sure does a lot of videos there. While it's a perfectly nice area, it's nowhere near as pricey as most areas inside Shibuya-ku.

Notice how "science" is used by nukapologist the same way "the Bibul" is used by creationist...

The word is dropped and should be considered the end of the debate without any... let say... scientific explanation is provided...

It sound strange to me to quote about his buying of new house and house location explaining who is him, especially I don't find him boastful about it in his own blog.

I think one might have indirectly explain about himself more than the intended person, be it Choo, Debito etc

Seriously... I don't understand the n33d of people to try to fit in the typical kapitalist lie of the self made man... Especially when even just your family name by itself have potential financial value...

You might also want to check the meaning of "boastfull".

More precisely:

Coligny testdriving cars, posting description and criticism and ending up keeping his P.O.S. -> not so boastfull

Choo explaining some detail of property purchase by describing in lenght how HE bought HIS house in TOKYO with the proceeds from HIS BLOG and not at all from the mollah of his stuffed dad (he sw34rz)... -> maybe a bit boastfull (or at least "LOOK AT ME FOLKS I BOUGHTED A HOUSE" "AND LOOK IT'S IN TOKYO" "ARE YOU JEALOUS YET ?)

For better appreciation of how much of a fucking tool this guy is :

Went along with comrades from the web2.0 Tokyo scene to attend Tokyo Transformers Night held at The IMAX cinema at Lazona in Kanagawa.


For those who are planning to watch Transformers "Revenge of the Fallen" - bring spare underwear - at least 20 pairs. Its that good! Have still not seen Star Trek to compare yet but Transformers is a must see for Sci-Fi fans.

Coligny, long time no see.

He explained in useful details of buying a house in Japan. I just think that he just finds that location is best to live and for future value. Not everyone want Tokyo even they can afford it.

I don't know, Taro had just named his location as Beverly Hills of Japan openly online too, I don't find him boastful, pityful, or whatever until his quoting about Choo here, that is why I find things we post might sometimes says much more about ourselves, regardless of what we are discussing about.

Agree. Choo is a boastful man who bought property in a present and possibly future radiation risk zone, which is not that smart. I may have a good address, but you don't have to put up with 20 touts from the Niger every day like I do, and friends I am a humble man and I am leasing. If Tokyo continues to have radiation problems, I don't need to put up with the Choo types who put everything into one basket of eggs.

Many think that Choo is a fuck-face, and friends, I tend to agree.

I don't think Danny Choo was being boastful at all about his house. I've got no love for his site but I read those posts at the time and they didn't seem out of place. When he started his blog, it was all about his life in Japan which included his dubious hobbies but also included where he ate, who he met, how his job was going, what he had bought - and how he went about buying his house. Another blogger active at that time, a friend of Choo's who went by the name of Q Taro, also wrote about his own purchase. I think they were both just going social online in all aspects of their lives.

Choo's blog then took on a life of its own and became the "portal" it now claims to be with a very odd community and content skewed towards it.

All the info given are uselessly common or matter to the architect only with the buyer having no influence.(constructible space, max height and so on)

Meanwhile all the thing given for granted in civilized countries that are not at all evident in japanese house are not spoken aboot:

Electrical distribution/ number of plugs per room/ number of circuit breakers//separation.
Heating and cooling options.
Isolation options.
gas availability for cooking, heating or cooling, city or bottled.
parking consideration and options.
all those things have to be considered BEFORE buying/building.

Instead he goes on aboot the laundry hangers and mosquito screen doors. For which either you have or not, and if you don't have, then you buy them... end of story... and it can wait for the good season to come before buying...

I met Danny Choo last year. I thought he was great. Quite humble in person and very friendly.

He had just participated in a panel discussion on mobile stuff and how it relates to pop-culture. Plus he was one of the guest judges for the wannabe mobile entrepreneur presentations.

He is fluent in multiple languages (English, Japanese, Korean) and quite articulate in the ones that I understood. He was quite insightful I thought.

At first I thought he was going to be a bit of a knob-head as he was wearing roller blades in Super Deluxe but after listening to him speak and then talking to him for a while I changed my opinion.

I am a huge fan of his Dad's shoes but that subject didn't come up in the conversation.

LOL, sounds like he's trying a bit too hard but sounds like it works for him? I don't really have much of an opinion of him but he's got an international otaku following like no other that pays his bills to read about his otaku life here. Got to give him props for that. (Though Coligny is right about his home buying post being useless)

Choo's post does not contain the vast majority of what you describe above.

Your posts recently speak volumes about your personal insecurities, deep fears, and jealousy, and are completely disconnected from reality surrounding the people or topics you're writing about. Your schtick was funny as hell for a long time, but lately all I can think is "this guy needs help" when I read most of your posts. Hope you are OK, honestly.

If you use post (singular) and read it explicitely you have a bit of a case. If you consider the whole circus with bits like D choo as a stormtrooper going to work at his desk for the-river japan.
