Fuck that... working sweatshop hours in an IT company in America, with crappy plumbing, overpriced housing, and horrible traffic? I prefer Yokohama, trains that are on time, MacDonald's that's edible (and I don't need to check if they actually included all of my food), a nice office, a nicer house, and all affordable because my biggest contract is an American company still paying American IT rates for my work.

If you'd like my ticket back to San Jose, California, you're more than welcome. 8)

Working

Postby kamome » Thu May 09, 2002 3:54 pm

No, I thiknk it is better to work in the States than in Japan, if only because you can get a bigger place for half the rent and because American companies on the whole function far better than Japanese companies. The office environment in Japan is the picture of inefficiency--inflexible policies, amakudari, old technology, xenophobia, no English, consensus-based decision making etc.

Where were you working? You just described the last two .com's I worked at before moving here with my wife!

Right after I quit, the COO of the company emailed out a list of employees that were going to be laid off, but fucked up and mailed out a list of employees that were staying (about 30 of them), including salaries and SSN's... needless to say the COO was summarily "allowed to spend more time with his family".

And living in San Jose, the rent is about $300 more expensive that what I would pay in Yokohama for similar housing.
The pay over here sucks though... glad I'm a consultant, and not a salaryman lackey.
