10,000 aliens invited to bask for FREE in Japanese radiation!

Postby Taro Toporific » Mon Oct 10, 2011 8:43 am

:glow2: 10,000 foreign tourists will be invited to Japan by the Tourism Agency of Japan for free travel
(crazy Google Translate) 03:00 October 10, 2011 Yomiuri Shimbun
Tourism Authority aims to recover the foreign tourists have decreased after the earthquake East, from around the world in fiscal 2012, Japan plans to invite 10,000 tourists generally travel free of charge.
Recruitment is done primarily through the Internet, if they pass the examination and the applicant's travel plans, to provide a return ticket to Japan...more craziness...:glow2:

Somehow, I knew this was coming. They will offer even more as no one applies for this desperate nonsense. Now if they offer free round trip first-class flights, free suite rooms in the Imperial Hotel, free room service sex from your choice of one or two neglige sexy maids, gourmet food and champagne with every meal, unlimited open bar and room service, then maybe it would work. And mark my words, they will get so desperate that they will, in time, offer this package. They will.

Sorry to pry, but don't you think it might be a good idea to add the rest of yourself as well? Mind you, I remember my days in the corporate world when I was surrounded by asses and assholes and they seemed all right, so perhaps I'm mistaken once again....

Danny Choo is now getting into the act and trying to be involved in this Y'all Come on over to Japan -- for FREE effort. And you can get a list of Danny's recommended sites to visit too! SCORE! I wonder if he will suggest any no-pan shabu shabu joints?

Announced today - the Japanese ministry of tourism is going to invite 10,000 foreigners to Japan - and pay for your travel.

Applications will be done through the internets and folks will be invited during 2012. Applicants need to submit their travel plans for when they are in Japan and if the government thinks that you truly intend to visit (and not overstay as an illegal immigrant) then they will pay for your return ticket.

The Japanese governments strategy for this plan is that they expect travelers to blog and use social media to spread the word about their experience in Japan which should hopefully lead to more folks visiting Japan.

The amount of foreigners visiting Japan since the earthquake and nuclear accident has decreased a ton - some prefectures like Yamagata have experienced up to 80% drop in overseas visitors.

The Japanese government is spending 1.1 billion yen on this project.

I already work with the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and I'm meeting the Japanese tourism board later this month at the Tokyo International Anime Festival later this month where I'm due to be giving a talk. I want them to choose you first - leave your travel plans for Japan below - where will you visit and where you plan to stay. Also when in 2012 would you like to come?
Obviously I cant promise anything and all I can do is give a recommendation though but if you leave enough info then hopefully we can convince them together ^o^

Also keep your eye out on the Japanese Tourism Board site for more info. And when you have arrived - here is a list of places that I recommend you visit while in Japan.

anyone that is watching the news would take a second guess on this "free" crap they are mentioning...

good time for the people who left japan to get a ride back though... wouldn't be surprised if this flopped tough.

not really for free

Postby ghostunit » Tue Oct 11, 2011 1:27 pm

It's not really for free:

1.- All expenses other than the plane ticket are on your coin, and considering that both a) Japan's fucking expensive and b) the Yen is fucking high, I don't see how the cost of the plane ticket relates significantly to the total cost of the vacation.

Consequently, it can only serve as a minor incentive to people who already had enough money to go anyways.

2.- You're expected to complete opinion surveys and do other still undisclosed stuff in order to promote Japan's image to the world. In other words, you're gonna have to work to earn your paltry plane ticket!

Lame.

Totally agree with the original poster. They should thrown in hotel + food at least.

Personally, I'd be willing to set foot on their post-apocalyptic, radioactive landscape ONLY if they also throw in first-class girls too, preferably dressed up in sailor uniform and um I'd better stop typing now.

Incentive for a minor? Is that like free carrots so you can bait young goats?

If #2 doesn't involve too much (like those ultra-cheap tour deals that require you to spend 3/4th of your time inside every souvenir outlet the travel agent received a kickback from), I might show this to my folks so they can come for a free visit to see their grandson again.

Once the information on how to apply is available, I'm going to give it a go. The only real concern,(as has been stated before) is the extra costs of lodging, and food and other expenses.(Oddly, I'm not worried about radiation.)

If I get lucky, once I'm in Tokyo, I'll let you guys know where I'm staying so you can stop by and give me a hard time.

That's all right mate! Just bring an economy size flask of Elmer's Glue. That way if anything falls off during your visit, you can just stick'er right back on with Elmer's and you'll be good to go.....

JTO is now saying they were just kicking around a potential idea, and the foreign media outlets all went apeshit claiming it was a done deal.

FWIW, I saw the report in Japanese from the Yomiuri and it was trending in Japanese on Twitter before I'd seen any report in English....

Just read up on this...JapAnal Probe blames "English" media outlets. JNTO simply says the media. JNTO certainly wasn't laying the blame on foreign media.

Yomiuri's report dated 12:01 a.m. on Oct. 11, the first I found in Japanese, notes that the Tourism Agency has made a budget request for the free tickets, but it reports on the request as being a done deal. It was already trending on Twitter in Japanese by the time I saw the story later that morning...

Good suggestion!

I have to say I've grown fond of the mild green fluorescent effect my skin has developed - keeps me from tripping over the cat when I wake up at night to throw up.
