No evidence sex slaves were taken by military: Hashimoto

OSAKA — Osaka Mayor Toru Hashimoto said there was no evidence that the Imperial Japanese Army forced Korean women and girls into sexual servitude at wartime military brothels.

In response to a question Tuesday about South Korean President Lee Myung Bak's visit to the disputed Takeshima islets, which are called Dokdo in South Korea, which controls them, Hashimoto touched on Lee's recent demands for Japan to apologize to the forced sex workers — now often described as "sex slaves" by the media — who were euphemistically called "comfort women" by the Japanese.

"There is no evidence that people called comfort women were taken away by violence or threat by the (Japanese) military," Hashimoto said. "If there is such evidence, South Korea should provide it."

Hashimoto also said he is "not denying all of what South Korea is saying," adding the military brothel system "may have been ethically problematic if viewed now."

Had a spat with my GF this morning over this, but now realize I was wrong. I thought Hashimoto only "demanded" proof and not "suggested South Korea provide it."

I say his statement is "fair enough."

Methinks, however, that the honorable sons of Nippon have in the years since 1945 disposed of as many incriminating documents as possible, not only relating to this issue, but to all sorts of nefarious acts...People should remember Tokyo's very first piece of postwar legislation was formation of the RAA (and that came when the city had been utterly destroyed and millions on the verge of starvation, so it gives some indication of where priorities lay at the time).

Instead of just bullshitting, the Japanese should reveal whatever they know, kowtow in apology, pay the old birds' compensation and get on with it. But, of course, that will never happen because it will stop the East Asian history fairytale trend that cuntries in this region thrive on...

Japanese always say they had little control over GHQ after the war, which makes sense to me since they lost unconditionally. I don't know about the details but I do know Korea is purported to have an acknowledged "prostitute class" for some centuries. Hasn't Japan been paying China and Korea back for decades?

This must have been one of the areas Japan successfully destroyed documentation at the end of the war. (That the cuntry's very first piece of postwar legislation led to the establishment of the Rest & Recreation Association <military brothels for Occupation troops> says a lot about their priorities at the time.) Fuck, in Japan at the time there were people smashing little girl's heads against the side of brick walls because they couldn't afford to feed them. They also had legalized and licensed prostitution. Don't they realize how fucked they look by pretending it didn't happen?

Actually, thanks for posting that vid. It brought back this childhood memory of winding up the song for the Mr. Whippy van. (I think in the deepest recesses of my mind, my 6-year-old self even got a free ice-cream out of it, except it was a hard serve that had a huge blue vein running through it.
