Iran's new "KOKER-1" VTOL drone supplied by Chiba University

Postby yanpa » Thu Nov 29, 2012 10:33 am

Well, at least that's where they got the photo from

The Register wrote:Iran's Photoshop FAIL: 'New drone' actually Japanese university bird

Another comical claim from knockabout ayatollahs

Earlier this month Iran showed off its latest drone design, but on examination the photographs bear a striking similarity to those coming out of Japan's Chiba University.

The connection was spotted by pilot, and blogger, Gary Mortimer, who felt the design of the KOKER-1 looked familiar but had to spend a few weeks remembering exactly where he'd seen it before before he remembered the Japanese researchers. He charitably suggests the Iranians might have bought a Quad Tilt Wing (QTW) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for testing, but admits they found a remarkably similar building over which to test it:

(Though I suppose it's always possible Chiba University stole the image and photoshopped-in the wind turbine blades onto the building).

In their defense it does seem like they have worked with the Japanese in the past....

For 39.99 they could have their own real UAV...

Funny... some bearded goatfucker saw UAV in the news, though "hum... it's th3 terrific new american weapon, we must pretend to have one to show the world how mighty we are", "quick Mismoul, photoshop a drone picture so we can call it our own..."

Sort of ignoring the fact that in countries where indoor plumbing is common, flying UAV is a hobby like any other, maybe less popular than the Playstation 3 because you need to go 'outside' (tm)...

Not saying that the chiba kids are not doing anything important, after all, autonomous cars or UAV is still in its infancy for civilian use... But nothing to be gloating about at a governement funding level...

The West can fake stuff too...

Although it was intuitively obvious that the graph trumpeted by AP as scary and incriminating of Iran's nuclear program was actually a farce, there is now new, overwhelming, very compelling scientific evidence that is the case. Whether as victim or recklessly culpable participant, AP helped perpetrate a dangerous hoax, and owes an explanation and accounting for what took place, including identifying the "officials from a country critical of Iran's atomic program" who made false claims about what this is.

To begin with, the graph AP touted as reflecting some sort of nefarious, highly threatening and complex nuclear calculation is, in fact, widely available all over the Internet in the most innocuous places. Just consider this side-by-side comparison of the AP graph on the left, with the graph on the right on this harmless site designed to teach beginner users how to use Microsoft Excel:

The China Problem

Postby Mike Oxlong » Fri Nov 30, 2012 5:48 pm

Growth in China’s Drone Program Called ‘Alarming’
At China’s biennial air show in Zhuhai this month, an imposing fleet of unmanned aerial vehicles was on display — drones bearing a striking resemblance to the American aircraft that have proved so deadly in attacks on insurgents in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Israel, Britain and the United States have pretty much had a corner on the global drone market, but the recent Chinese air show and a Pentagon report have exploded that notion.

“In a worrisome trend, China has ramped up research in recent years faster than any other country,” said the unclassified analysis published in July by the Defense Science Board. “It displayed its first unmanned system model at the Zhuhai air show five years ago, and now every major manufacturer for the Chinese military has a research center devoted to unmanned systems.”

The report, which said “the military significance of China’s move into unmanned systems is alarming,” suggested that China could “easily match or outpace U.S. spending on unmanned systems, rapidly close the technology gaps and become a formidable global competitor in unmanned systems.”

Two Chinese models on display at the Zhuhai show — the CH-4 and the Wing Loong, or Pterodactyl — appeared to be clones of the Reaper and Predator drones that are fixtures in the U.S. arsenal. A larger drone, the Xianglong, or Soaring Dragon, is a long-range, high-altitude model that would seem to be a cousin of the RQ-4 Global Hawk.

Huang Wei, the director of the CH-4 program at the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, told the state-run newspaper Global Times that his lightweight drone can carry cameras, ground-searching radar, missiles and smart bombs.

“As the Americans say,” Mr. Huang said, “the U.A.V. is fit for missions that are dirty, dangerous and dull.”

The paper reported that the drone’s range of 3,500 kilometers, or about 2,200 miles, made it “ideal to conduct surveillance missions” over a small group of islands in the East China Sea known as the Senkakus in Japan and the Diaoyu in China. The islets are claimed by Beijing, Tokyo and Taipei...

It's a little-known fact that the Chinese characters for "research" and for "blatant copy" are almost identical.

I like that logic - "warships for peace".

Now to find out where they photoshopped it from.

Paper mâché is a "composite material" that would make it a stealth boat that's totally invisible to radar.

Is This North Korean Hovercraft-Landing Photo Faked?

While researching a photo entry about North Korea's recent threats of war, I discovered an image released by North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) that appears to have been digitally manipulated -- at least two, possibly three hovercraft appear to have been pasted into the scene of a military exercise, reportedly taking place on North Korea's east coast on March 25, 2013. Two hovercraft crashing through the surf, nearest to the photographer, appear to be just a single hovercraft, with a digital twin copied and pasted nearby. Two of the more distant craft appear to be digital twins as well. A third vehicle in the scene has some of the hallmarks of digital pasting, including color mismatch, a slight halo, and soft edges. We have reached out for comment to Getty Images, which distributed this image from KCNA, and are awaiting its response.

A dairy company in Iran has claimed to have set a new world record for the largest tub of ice-cream.

Thousands of Iranians flocked to a ceremony on Monday held by Choopan dairy at the Tochal resort in Velenjak mountainous area north of the capital Tehran to unveil the five-tonne (11,023lb) chocolate dessert contained within a tub measuring at least 1.6 metres (5ft) by 2 metres.

"Right now, we are breaking the record which was registered in 2005 by Baskin-Robbins for about 4 tonnes," the event's organiser Khashayar Baheri told the state-run Press TV. "We're breaking that record by one tonne."
