I don't have the pac-3 user manual... but i'm pretty sure the design imply that you put the launcher on the flight path between the target and the offending country... Not right at the potential target, unless you want to be sure to put it under a rain of flaming debris...

The interception point is supposed to be miles from the interceptor launch location. But anyhow, those missiles are crap in that case and can't intercept ballistic projectiles of the kind NK has.

(but for their defense -the JASDF I mean- since PAC 3 have a success rate of interception varying between 0-10% and 97% depending on if you listen to people who analysed operationnal results or to GW Bush... they might as well stock on bamboo spears and aim really high...)

Don't know about any Patriot missiles, but down here in Kyushu, the JASDF activity in the sky has ramped up since all this saber rattling started.
I live about 30 km from a JASDF airbase. Yesterday, quite a few jets were scrambled (I would say it was not just routine exercises as it was more than usual), and a few took off again earlier this morning too. AFAIK they haven't come back yet, so I'm guessing they went farther than just a quick look-see (don't ask me what jets they are as I don't know, and I have no idea of their range).
*Edit: just heard some more jets, so either they are coming back, or more are going...

Same here, much more pointy nose and chinooks in the sky. And with most Awacs based in Hamamamtsu it's not a big surprise...

(basically, all stuff not listed on FlightRadar24 I assume is military traffic...)

Likewise...live and work near JASDF bases and there is clearly much more going on. This is fucken lovely for those fascists pushing to revise the Cuntstitution.
